Sleep Support FAQs
Q: What exactly does a pediatric sleep consultant do?
A: I help families get more restful sleep by creating personalized, age-appropriate sleep plans. I take your parenting style, your child’s temperament, and your sleep goals into account to build a supportive, realistic plan. After we review it together and you feel confident and comfortable with the sleep plan, I’ll guide you through the process—setting reasonable expectations, troubleshooting hiccups, and cheering you on every step of the way.
Q: Do you use “cry-it-out”?
A: Not unless that's your preference. I meet you where you are and offer a range of gentle, responsive approaches. I only recommend what aligns with your comfort level and parenting values.
Q: When is the right time to work with a sleep consultant?
A: Anytime sleep is affecting your child’s well-being—or yours. I support families from the newborn stage through age 5+.
For babies under 3–4 months, we focus on Sleep Shaping—building healthy, gentle habits like bedtime routines and appropriate wake windows without formal sleep training.
Q: My baby is breastfed. Will your plan affect that?
A: Not at all! I fully support breastfeeding and will create a plan that respects your feeding preferences and supports your breastfeeding relationship.
Q: Can you help with early morning wakings / short naps / frequent night waking?
A: Yes! Those are some of the most common challenges I help families with. We’ll look at the whole picture: routine, sleep environment, timing, and your child's unique sleep needs to get to the root of the problem and build a plan that works.
Q: How long does it take to see results?
A: Most families start seeing improvements in just a few days, but every child is different. Your consistency and the specific sleep challenges we're addressing both play a role. I'll support you every step of the way.
Q: What does your support look like?
A: I offer up to 2 weeks of daily support via text and email to help you implement your sleep plan with confidence. During weekdays (Monday–Friday, 8am–6pm), I typically respond within a few hours. On evenings and weekends, I aim to respond within 12 hours—often sooner. You’ll never feel like you’re doing this alone.
Q: What if I’ve tried everything and nothing works?
A: You are not alone—and it’s not your fault. I bring fresh eyes and a personalized approach to help you move forward with confidence. With the right support, sleep can get better.
Q: What is the most important part of sleep training?
A: Consistency. Whatever method you choose (I typically offer options), sticking with it is key. Sleep training looks different depending on your child’s age and your chosen approach, but setting loving limits and clear boundaries helps build a sense of trust and security for your child.
